Cisco will deploy several 12000 Series routers to upgrade the Carrier1 backbone. This upgrade will provide Carrier1 with a high-speed, stable and resilient backbone enabling it to transport IP services to its customers at much greater speed. Carrier1 has a presence in 12 European countries and provides an extensive range of IP services to telecommunications service providers across Europe. Due to increasing demand and an expanded service offering that embraces the ever-growing array of New World applications, Carrier1's existing backbone needed to scale. Carrier1 looked to Cisco to provide a rapidly deployed solution that would not only meet its needs today but also fulfil future requirements. Carrier1 took great care to ensure the solution it chose was right for its particular needs. Terje Nordahl, chief operating officer of Carrier 1 comments, ``Our company, and the telecom sector in general, has grown extensively in a short period of time and continues to do so. The ever-increasing traffic we have experienced as a result of this growth meant that we invested to sustain that demand. Our optical backbone across Europe currently operates at multiple 10 Gigabit level, and we will provision both 2,5 and 10 Gigabit services on this network, with extensions into our Metropolitan Rings. The Cisco 12000 series Internet routers are enabling our Internet backbone network to run at the 2.5 Gigabit level, achieving Tier 1 status across Europe and into the U.S.'' Carrier1 will use the Cisco 12000 Series Internet routers to enable key value-added services based on MPLS and real-time content delivery using Multicast. Duncan Mitchell, vice president, Network Service Providers, Cisco Systems EMEA comments, ``Carrier1 made it clear to Cisco it fully anticipates the growth in Internet to have a significant effect on its customers' requirements. It was therefore imperative that the solution it opted for be able to provide for today's services and yet have the capabilities to seize new opportunities as they arose. We are delighted Carrier1 has chosen Cisco to assist it in enabling the exciting services and applications that are sure to develop as data services begin to dominate service providers' agendas. The solution they have chosen will not let them down.'' Cisco's gold partner, NCR will assist it in the rollout of the solution at Carrier1.
