Oh Karen, compromise is all we have at this point...please consider why some people are not as open minded as some would like.....and hopefully the less open minded will also reconsider their position as well....

There's that old Chinese saying that defines insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Compromise might get people a tentative agreement, but it can't hold up long term because people focus on what they gave up and, as soon as the deal is made, the parties are looking to up their advantage in a subsequent deal. A consensus process both leads the parties to a mutually agreeable result and gives them the mutual respect and understanding that holds up over time. It does, however, presuppose a desire of the parties to get along, no small obstacle.
