Difference between AMCC and PMCS. Here is the answer.
(it may be just specific to the different markets these companies serve)

PMC-Sierra rival Applied Micro Circuits Corp., though, said last week that its sales this quarter will rise by a percentage ``in the upper teens'' from the previous period. Applied Micro gets more sales from faster fiber-optic chips for which demand is higher now, compared to the slower chips that make up the bulk of PMC's revenue, Veerappan said

Also:
Cisco said on Nov. 6 that its inventory of raw materials, which includes chips, more than quadrupled to $631 million in its first quarter ended Oct. 28 from $145 million in the fourth. That sparked investor fears that Cisco would order fewer chips from suppliers as it reduced inventory.

Other Cisco chip suppliers, such as Xilinx Inc. and Altera Corp., also have said demand slowed because of an inventory glut at customers.

In addition, in another article the analyst noted that AMCC serves the "core" while PMCS serves the "edge".
AMCC and VTSS's guidance is consistent with the optical companies like JDSU.
