SI was all about investing and making money at the get go. But it naturally evolved beyond that. Investors are people. People have all kinds of beliefs that are the foundations of their views about the economy. the economy is not just about money, or money is not independent of peoples' beliefs about each other or something like that. Oy. Look: What makes this place interesting and worth the price of admission is that we can talk to each other, yell and scream at each other about how we think the world should work. There must be some limits I guess. Physical threats are certainly disturbing and should be deemed beyond the roman pale, as are a certain class of emotional threats, e.g., "I'll tell somebody you know something about you that they won't like, nah, nah!." and other childish crap. I admit that sometimes these calls or judgments about what is indeed beyond that pale are hard to make. SI Bob has no easy job. But perhaps it's not that hard? Keep it all. Keep it going. There's nothing here that world wars haven't survived. Everything here, with very few exceptions (ibid) is worth talking about. Ground rules have been explained and so off we go.

There are insults threads, and flame threads, this thread is not viable if it too nicey nicey. Doesn't need to be nicey nicey. But the envelope got pushed too far. Clearly: Mocking, hating, deriding people because of their race, color, gender, or ideology is unnecessary, and spoils the atmosphere--even for those that are here for boxing instead of debating. Debating and boxing do not exactly appear to be natural bedfellows. Perhaps that marriage was ill-advised. In any case, even boxers don't bite you in the ear without penalty. There are always limits to behaviour. It is unfortunate that we don't place those limits upon ourselves. The only way we can have a relatively uncensored community is if we do not wear hoods, carry torches, or burn down buildings. SI intentionally steers clear of manipulating free speech. My God, look at the stuff that has been said over the last couple weeks on RWE and here? How tolerant can you get? We all need to hold ourselves responsible for this. Too damn bad that some are in the wrong place at the wrong time...and take the fall for others.
