I have a hard time commenting on this, because it all seems very far away to me. If posts don't involve an issue - and it's usually pretty clear at first glance - I don't read them. I don't read posts from certain individuals. I've never used the "ignore" function; I can ignore quite well without it.

Most of all, I would never, ever, dream of taking anything that goes on here seriously. It's a casual fencing match; it's fun, it sharpens the wit, gives an opportunity to bounce ideas around... but why take any of it personally? It's something that really, honestly, mystifies me.

All of YYB's suggestions seem good to me, but they also seem so natural that they should hardly need to be said. I really don't think there can or should be a ban on offending someone. And those who are offended should really not go squealing to SI, which is pretty despicable behaviour in my book, unless a clear TOU violation is involved. Why should people who don't like to read the threads demand that they be sanitized? If you don't like to read the threads, don't read 'em....

All of this is repetitive and pretty... obvious, I think. I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
