You have a point there about altering ballots...the officials in Washington state seem to be a well trusted lot. They said with satisfaction, "we'll have a recount but it's okay, this is not Florida" and they seemed to be right.

The Civil Rights commission called Florida's voting process a "disaster". Florida's attitude literally seemed to be, we'll miss 4% or 5% of the vote, but hey, close enough for government work.

I'm just upset that at the end of the day there was no authority who said, 'when the undervote is 100 times larger than the margin of victory, the loser deserves a recount -- but it will be properly done'. The system was tested and found wanting.
