Won only for the sake of winning, without honor or purpose. Well said. And if people can actually learn something new in dialogue, it might actually justify the time spent. Sometimes sending them to Coventry is the only recourse that makes sense. I would actually like to see a thread such as this moderated under the rule that a request to ban would be voted on to the thread head in PM privacy, with say an 80 % agreement required (anyone that disruptive to the community is only being contaminated by inclusion). Say one day to vote--lurkers too. Of course, some would challenge the honesty of the thread head, and on and on. Well, I think it is more democratic than having one person made responsible. It also makes it a community decision, and protects the thread head from being the sole recipient of the rage and hurt feelings that may occur. We have seen how unfair it is for thread heads to be forced into the autocratic role, but without true autocratic power. There must be a better way...
