Mang:

I read somewhere that CORV and SYCM were both working on an optical card to slot into a PC like an ethernet card, with projected capacity up to 100 Mbps. While my cable modem connection is an order of magnitude or more faster than my old 56 Kbps analog modem, I'd sure like to have an optical connection into the back of my PC. Probably 5 years or more away for consumers.

Mang, you are correct about Atrica and I recommend you look at their web site, which will manifest 3Com and its' employees as the founders of the company.

atrica.com

Atrica is a start-up founded by 3Com Corporation. The company was founded by a group of entrepreneurs who, while working at 3Com, saw a huge opportunity for extending the world's most successful networking technology -Ethernet - to the Metro network.
