Re: WHy - because it's from AMD? That's pure fantasy.

Actually, it's common sense. OEMs have clearly demonstrated that they are more comfortable with an alternate source for CPUs.

Especially after the Rambus disaster dumped on them by Intel.

We've seen it in desktops, we've seen it in notebooks (did Compaq and HP really need to offer K6+ notebooks?), and we're about to see it in servers.

Paul,

By your reaction, it seems like the AMD SMP chipset is touching a raw nerve, and you are more obsessed about it than the circimstances warrant.

Maybe you should just re-read my post. I said "If it works as advertised, it would make a fine entry level server." I also said "OEM's may not jump on the 760 MP chipset for a lot of reasons".

My guess is that your overreaction has to do with the fact that the AMD SMB chipset in combination with Athlon processors look very strong on paper compared to Intel solution. So my advice is: Relax, it is still only on paper (and samples, and pre-production).

Even though there may be a lot of inertia on part of the OEMs, the motherboard would make a good toy to replace my SMP Celeron based PC.
