Jurgis and Thread- Well if this rumor turns out to be accurate, selling the optical unit division for $1 billion would be the deal of the century for ECIL. ECIL's total cap today is only $1.28 billion. -MikeM(From Florida)

Israel's ECI in talks to sell optical unit -paper

TEL AVIV, Jan 29 - Israel's ECI Telecom is in advanced talks to sell its optical networks unit Lightscape Networks to an international communications company in a deal valuing the unit at $1 billion, the Maariv newspaper said on Monday.

ECI recently completed a four-month process of splitting into five companies, one of which is Lightscape.

ECI, a maker of communications equipment, had hoped to begin listing the five companies in March, but weak market conditions delayed these plans.

Jonathan Kolber, the chief executive of ECI's parent company Koor Industries , said last weak ECI was in talks with potential investors who were interested in buying up to 20 percent of the individual businesses.

He had said Lightscape was one of two ECI companies likely to secure such financing first.

A spokeswoman at ECI declined to comment on the report, while officials at Koor could not immediately be reached for comment.
