I have to agree with Tim here. It was just a dumb joke. Now if you want to discuss whether or not, or how much, it reflected his viewpoints or his feelings of cockiness, or whatever, go for it.

It certainly is black humor. I don't think that makes Reagan a moron for making such a joke. It was careless to make such a joke in a situation that he could be overheard easily. The thing that struck me was not that the people on left wing discussion thread where offended by Reagan making such a joke but that they were offended by me stating that it was a joke.

Frankly, I expect a President to be smarter than the average person...I don't think joking about bombing another country or playing with a cigar in the White House are examples of playing it smart.....btw the latter being the lesser of the two offenses.

Maybe my standards are too high.
