Joe, where did you order the thermally-controlled power supply and case fans? Did you have to order a new power supply, or did you just replace the fan?

I may have said this before, but I've read that some crazy people out there actually remove ALL of the fans from their system. Then to control heat, they will go as far as to underclock their systems. That's unacceptable for high-performance machines, but if all you want are Linux terminals, it makes a lot of sense.

Oh, and do keep us informed on your progress. You might even want to involve the AMD Mod Squad, since there are more hardware tweakers on that thread than this one.

Re: quiet computers. My advise: get Athlon-800, and run it
at 600MHz with Vcc=1.2V, maybe lower, 0.95V.
No fan needed if you could find some old-style
Slot-2 Xeon big heat sinks with wide-spaced fins
suitable for free convection.
