The Naz bear has so far closely followed the 1990 Nikkei pattern. Until that changes why break with a winning strategy?

overlaying charts is a lazy method of TA

I disagree.

It's just another comparison in the long list of comparisons done during a research project. In this instance it's also alot more than the mere comparison of charts, it's everything the chart represents...that being investor psychology during the closest comparable investment mania of our time.

No big deal, I'm not a big proponent of the theory personally, but I don't deny the similarities in the charts or the two fundamental economic pictures...

of which there are many.

There is one rationale for overlaying charts. Human nature has not changed. It is a measure of how people reacted to similar situations. The Japanese were in denial. The questions we have to ask ourselves is, "Are we also in denial? Are the circumstances really different?

It is not an easy call. I tend to think now is different, but then I keep telling myself that greed and fear haven't changed.

Best to all,

John

I am mostly a lurker but did post about naz 2400 and fighting the fed. I am not as sophisticated as almost everyone here, but I do wonder why everyone compares naz to Japan? Overlays are easy but the countries are so very different fundamentally. Is the comparison too simplistic? Just look at the backbone of any country, the demographics, Japan has a tremendous demographic problem with a whole generation missing. Just an uneducated opinion.
