Thanks for your pov, srexley. Nice to find a debate instead of an insult contest.

I have little choice but to give GWB a chance -- he's the President. He's done the transition pretty well but that might be Cheney's doing. He seems modest and charming, but I can't feel that he's qualified for the job, and I expect that his ignorance of world affairs will get him into trouble sooner or later. Does anyone in the world think he would be President if his last name were Smith?

I think that Gore did deserve a recount, one that actually counted all votes as carefully as possible. If he had lost the automatic recount by one vote would you still have advised him to just concede? The election was unbelievably close, and the margin of error shockingly large. I think the effort to find and count all the votes sends a statement about their importance. Conversely, the willingness to ignore votes sends a statement about their importance too.

The circus began imo when it became clear that Katherine Harris would put her duty as campaign chair above her duty as secretary of state. Then the squeals began on both sides. Personally, I thought the Republicans achieved louder volume. I kept hoping for some adult to impose order but it didn't happen.
