Ben,

The masterminds at Nok ought to concentrate on providing a GPRS handset before all else lest they find
the monopolistic markets they dominate switching over to CDMA sooner than they expect <ggg>

OFDM Forum

www.ofdm-forum.com/content/page1.html

What the site does: OFDM, or orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, should be part of the lexicon for everyone interested in the future of wireless broadband communications. And this site, operated by the OFDM Forum, is a good place to start. The forum was created 13 months ago, principally through the impetus of Wi-LAN Inc. and Philips Semiconductors, to foster an OFDM standard. That universal standard still is up in the air, but the technology already is part of such standards as the 802.11a specification. The forum was a supporting organization at the recent Wireless Communications Association meeting in San Jose, Calif., and is holding its next regular forum meeting in San Francisco Feb. 20-21 at the Broadband World Wireless Forum. The forum has about 50 members, including Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Sony. Last fall one of the forum's working groups approved a physical layer proposal using OFDM technology for presentation to the IEEE 802.16.3 standards committee.

Usefulness of the Web site: You can get a rudimentary knowledge of OFDM, which helps resolve multipath issues in new generations of wireless broadband networks. Look at the news section to see what's been happening. You can download PDF files of the forum charter, as well as some of the documents prepared by working groups. Of course, you also can get membership information and register for future meetings. If you want more detail about OFDM technology, try Wi-LAN's site (www.wi-lan.com).

How site elements are arranged: Nothing fancy here. There's the logo on the top of the home page with some text about the forum. Then there are links across the top to "News & Events," "Members," "Work Groups," "Meetings," "Join the Forum" and "Login."
