X,
I believe that atheists and agnostics are maligned because it is assumed that without some sort of god guiding them, they must not have a moral compass. I have been an atheist, and then an agnostic and now a non-specific spiritual (meaning, I believe that there is something, but I have no idea what "it" is). My values have remained relatively consistent regardless of my current beliefs (or lack thereof). And I have certainly seen ample evidence of those who do believe in god/religion who seem to be lacking in a meaningful moral compass.

I do consider it interesting that significant representatives of both parties do not apply the idea of religious freedom to atheists/agnostics. What are they going to do, force someone to believe in god?

If you take Hillary's statement: "Radicals and atheists are destroying families." [Hillary Rodham-Clinton]
and replace "atheists" with any other belief system, it is clearly offensive.

"Radicals and Christians are destroying families."
"Radicals and Jews are destroying families."
"Radicals and Muslims are destroying families."

Bland considers himself a gnostic.

He knows, he just can't always remember exactly what it is he knows.
