Please change the font back to what it was. This new font is very difficult to read, especially if someone uses italics. It's impossible to scan a thread now with this new font. I hate it!

Rule #1: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

just to add another voice to the chorus...

PLEASE change the font back to something readable!

and stop making ad-hoc changes. If there are problems with the UI then do a top down UI review and solve all your problems.

Please change the fonts back the way they were. When I laid down my cold hard cash for SI services, I didn't realize I was buying a major case of EYESTRAIN.

Keep in mind that a big part of your customer base is baby boomers with 50-year-old eyes. For us, the bigger, the better. Yes, I realize I can go into "accessibility" options and make some changes, but when I do that it screws up a lot of the other sites that I visit, including my online broker. If I make the changes to make your site large enough for my old eyes, then over at my broker's site, the trade entry form takes up THREE screens, instead of just the ONE that I am used to. That is unacceptable.

Scott, Serif typefaces:

Visit your bookcase or local library and grab a dozen regular-size books. Betcha none of the body text is written with sans-serif type. The very reason the publishing industry uses serif type is because the individual serifs aid in character recognition.

Sans-serifs are great for short blurbs, advertising taglines, instructional help text, and the like. Novels, however, can't be read this way. Remember, threads are novels—people read them 20-50-100-150 pages at a sitting, night upon night. This type of eye exercise relies on completely effortless character recognition.

Re-inventing reading—or the wheel—is ill-advised here, as the publishing industry has been fiddling with this stuff for about 400 years. They've got a pretty good headstart, ever since that Gutenburg chap.

I lied, I will keep on making comments, but please don't respond unless it is with a restoration of the Classic SI interface.

I like to put my cursor on the "next" button and then just click and scroll through the list. If I come across a message that is using a fixed font, notice how the "next" button moves?

Here is an example

Please return to the original font. The new font is way too big and requires too many clicks to scan messages.

Thanks!

Hey! If you're not going to fix the mess, can you tell Netscape 4.75 users how to rig a work around?

I can't read any posts that are made having selected "use fixed font".

Thanks.

Does SI intend to fix this current font mess and revert us back to the more readable font?

How about making the Font & Size a User setting in the Options Preferences?

I dont think a one size fits all approach will satisfy everyone.

Even with a 1600x1200 desktop I have to use the old Netscape 3.0 Browser to get a good readable Font for SI. IE5.5 and Netscape 4.7 Fonts in combination with SI size settings are a pain.

fonts, fonts, fonts, let's mix it up a little, huh?

how about that retarded hot list! i see a thread that has 11,000+ total posts. it had 1 today. and it's on the hot list.

maybe one of these days a whole bunch of people will just coincidentally post to that thread and it will be hot. like a broken clock is correct two times a day.

:)
