T.,

I don't know where you get "vast majority" being pro-Intel, because in all of the years I've been working for Intel (even during the days of Pentium FDIV), the vast majority (or at least the most vocal) have always been pro-AMD and/or pro-Cyrix.

It doesn't have much to do with either being pro or against Intel, it's about what the vendor is selling and at what price. There was a period of time, since Celeron Mendocino was released, when Intel just dominated all the categories and criteria you can think of.

Since the release of Athlon, Intel began to lose it's leadership in one category after another, and now, it is hard to come up with a reason to go with Intel for a desktop system.

I bought a number of Intel CPUs and Intel based system when Intel had the lead, even while I was AMD shareholder, when Intel had the Coppermines out, and all AMD had were Slot based Athlons and K6-2s.

But now, face it, it's pretty bleak. People had desire for Mendocino Celerons and Coppermine (forget the initial growing pains for a moment), but I don't see any desire on part of people who know their PCs to buy Intel CPUs.

Don't get me wrong, I am not predicting that Intel will go out of business tomorrow. There is a great deal of inertia in the system that favors Intel, and status quo. There are always secretaries, clueless newbies and corporate purchasing departments.

And AMD started screwing up lately as well, so there is hope for Intel that things will turn around. And as Mary would probably say, Intel is a Gorilla, and has in its power to push crap on their customers.
