reboot will probably make it reappear, or will make the box that gottfried just told you about available for checking.

try rebooting.

If the entire box is greyed out you probably do not have the drivers for your audio card installed. Were there any yellow exclamation marks in the device manager? Could be a loose cable. Have you checked to see if the connections from your speakers are plugged in good?
