OT - Dan, I really have to disagree with this: "Most programs do most of their work in one thread,"

Certainly nothing that I've written in the last 5 years. And I doubt that that's the case with very much modern Windows software. It is just so easy to toss-off either a GUI or worker thread, that there's not much resistance to it. Threads used to be a "scarey" topic for Windows programmers, but nowadays MFC makes it trivially easy. (And always has been for worker threads. The MFC support for GUI threads makes it trivial to make a window or dialog have it's own thread.)

Besides, my main goal with the dual processors is to be able to run multiple applications when one is hogging the system. I want to be able to browse the web while my greedy daily quote downloader (Quotes Plus) is updating it's database.

"What coolers are you using for those 15K drives?"

I use PC Power and Cooling BayCools:

pcpowercooling.com

However, the X15's run cooler than the 10K Cheetahs. Seagate had a nasty reputation for hot drives with the Barracudas and early Cheetahs, and they have listened to their customers and fixed that.

They feel COLD when run with the cooler - and just warm to the touch without.

The X86 MPU systems we've used have never been quite as stable as the uniprocessor systems.
---

This is a fairly common experience. Some peripheral vendors don't bother testing their drivers in a MPU enviroment.

A certain vendor of sound cards shipped drivers for over a year that guaranteed a blue screen if you had more than a single CPU...
