i think they might have turned it off in your registry. just a guess. what operating system are you running, carolyn? win98? win98se? win95?

check what is selected in control panel, sounds. in my system (win 98) i can select no sounds.

Go to start/run and type in hwinfo/ui and click ok. Scroll down to media section and select everything in it and go up to edit/copy and then paste it into your reply to this message.
