Optical-electronic routers: CSCO v. JNPR: First love tap.

During a recent visit to India, Cisco Systems Inc. CEO John Chambers
was asked about competition from Juniper Networks (JNPR),
the 5-year-old upstart that has suddenly seized a serious
share of the market for high-speed routers.
``You'll find that when a small company is growing,
(it's like) a child and so you are very gentle with them,''
Chambers said. ``Once a company gets bigger and they are
no longer a child, you give them a couple of love taps when
they make marketing claims that may be a little too
aggressive.

For that matter, expect Cisco's first love tap toward its rival very soon.
The background here is the competition between the two
to lay claim to the first true 10-gigabit router,
a super-fast speed.
