Governments are shifting in the direction of laissez-faire, but none of them will ever get all the way there, nor should they. A certain degree of regulation will always be required; different societies require different amounts, and must find a balance that works for them. No solution is going to work for everyone. I'm basically sympathetic to the libertarian agenda, but libertarian fundamentalism as as absurd and impractical as fundamentalism of any other kind.
