When I do that, go to sounds that is, all this stuff appears in the little window which I do not understand. Windows, Quicken, etc., with a bunch of gobbledegook.

Is your operating system windows 98?

If so, when you click control panel, sounds a window comes up that has three areas. One for events, one for sound names and one for schemes. If you have the same system...you can click in events on one of the events that has a speaker on the left side. This will in turn put a sound name in the sound area where you can preview the sound. You can then click to the right of the preview and hear the sound.

You should wait to start on this process until you have ended with the other tests you are currently working on with charleymike.
