Molecular Devices Reports Record Revenues and Earnings for Fourth Quarter And Year Ended December 31,
2000

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ --
Molecular Devices Corporation (Nasdaq: MDCC) today announced record revenues
and earnings for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2000.
Revenues for the fourth quarter were $27,477,000, higher than any previous
quarter in the Company's history and a 26% increase over sales reported in the
same period last year. Revenues for the year were $96,035,000, or an increase
of 34% compared to the year ended December 31, 1999. On a constant currency
basis, fourth quarter revenues would have been $28.1 million, or 29% growth
over last year.
Operating income increased 61% and 102% in the fourth quarter and year
ended December 31, 2000, respectively, as compared to operating income in the
same periods last year (excluding the effect of a $15,181,000 charge related
to the LJL BioSystems merger in third quarter of 2000 and a
$2,037,000 write-off of acquired in-process research and development recorded
in the second quarter of 1999). (snip)
