Hi Grace, yes. Michael Coden of Codenoll Corp did optical ethernet NICs over MultiMode fiber during the mid-Eighties. He also ventured into plastic optical fiber (POF) at the time. Twisted pair ethernet did him in, though. At the time even Token Ring loomed as a threat.

If Corvis and others are looking into this, as I think AVNX is too, they are probably targeting a more advanced means of line coding, probably through discreet or tunable wavelengths, I'd imagine. FAC
