Bland's Manson comment was partly in jest, but only partly. In seriousness, of course, bland does not believe in torture of any kind, in any way, shape, or form. And justice certainly should not be handed over to the victims to execute. It should be applied impersonally in every instance. Executions should not be performed in bland's name nor anyone else's. They should not be performed with a view to making anyone feel good, or better. They are a price, a penalty, to be paid. Period. In Manson's case, specifically, bland can personally think of no moral argument that is convincing to him why Manson shouldn't be executed (he's open to anyone else's attempts, however). If our current system is indeed "wildly unfair", then certainly the fact that other individuals are executed and Manson isn't would certainly seem to support that particular viewpoint.
