When you're in familiar territory, in public places, in the day time, naturally you are most relaxed.

In New York, virtually every one one knows has been at one time or another robbed, or burgled, or assaulted in the street. Had their car stolen. Their purse snatched. I carry mine very securely at all times.

I've told this before: My husband was walking along the sidewalk in NYC, just entering a section of the walk covered over because work was being done on the building. The was an iron railing between the street and the sidewalk along that stretch.

A man in the street lunged for N's back pocket and wrenched his wallet out of his jeans.

N swung around, fast, grabbed the guy's arm, and broke his wrist on the metal railing.

The guy dropped the wallet and ran off screaming.

If N weren't in a NYC-ready state, he wouldn't have done that and his wallet would have been history.

I'm urging vigilance on you again!

I have to go to bed right this minute.
