bottomline i still don't see enough shares(ala toxic convertibles and such) to hold this back IF(stress IF) there is any major news afoot(later insertion, the fact that at their next shareholders meeting they will be asking to increases known ooutstanding shares by 20,000,000 doesn't this suggest they feel perhaps they won't have a problem selling them.)The L.A.Times suggest run in stock on Friday was due to the 2 individuals that were appointed to Board of Directors --one being Perry,ex-Secretary of Defense, the other from M.I.T. and ex-CIA.
On 11/01/1999 they were issued a patent for 'Neo-Stack" 3D semiconductor packaging techinique, but said then they were some distance away from volume production.
the other conjectural factor is in this post i found from October<<Hi, all -- I'm new to IRSN and have already posted this message on a few SI threads, but am hoping someone here might be willing to help me assess this company as an investment prospect.
Pre-market, IRSN came out with a PR that, on the surface at least, looks remarkable. It says it's forming a subsidiary to commercialize an electro-optical SuperRouter that offers 100 times more throughput than routers on the market today. From the past PRs on IRSN's Web site, I discovered that the SuperRouter has been funded to this point by U.S. government (Army) grants, that the demonstration model is a 256 x 256 switch that operates at a minimum of 10GB/second per channel, and that the capacity of the SuperRouter will extend to 4096 x 4096 with at least 40GB/second per channel.

By comparison, the Hyperchip Petabit router, which made big news at the recent SuperComm trade show, is a 256 x 256 with 10GB/second per channel (if I understand the description correctly) -- the same specs as the demonstration model IRSN is developing.

My questions are: is IRSN for real, and is its technology for real? The market isn't very excited, which seems to answer no. But Bear Stearns just bought a load of IRSN in a recent private placement; Barclay's has been accumulating IRSN in the open market; and Northern Trust was the second largest shareholder, as of 30 June 2000. This money seems to be saying yes. Who's the smart money, in this case?

The market cap is just about $130 million, with a shade more than 46.5 million shares outstanding after the placement.

Hi, Infostream: IRSN was issued as a "flying turd" precisely because of past poor execution. However, their new capitalization structure establishes independent cost centers through subsidiaries. They have put in place a new board with members that are impressive to me. They have many technologies that are potentially lucrative, especially in the MEMS area. And they are eminently hypeable...sufficiently so, that they can raise cash through equity offerings to fund them. I think that they may have reached a turning point. But we will see....
