Local and mostly fixed or very local and then also mobile
wireless networks take care of their part of the total
market, other parts of the market need other solutions.

Very few seem to survive in outer space, but unlicensed
2.4Ghz, power restricted fixed wireless, with limited
mobility within the dense grid of antenna boxes,
will probably have a better future replacing
much of the present wired local networks.

Especially for universities and homes, even
neighbourhoods, cheaper than drilling holes in
walls and installing connectors in every probable
place.

But to be carried around in a pocket it must also
have large, even global coverage, low battery
weight and the local networks must agree to
let it connect.

My personal killer patent for the unlicensed bands
and proprietary equipment would be some equipment for
figuring why they don't work every now and then.
