Riiight, you claim there is no market amongst scientists for baby tissue, that scientists already have the cells they need for their research. Never mind that the debates on the issue in both the House and Senate revealed that at least some scientists and institutions are purchasing baby parts for research, and never mind that the issue was exposed both by 20/20 and by Life Dynamics, a pro-life group that went undercover to expose how human chop shops hocked baby parts to scientists all over our country. Never mind that even the NIH has purchased baby parts for its research.

The clear intent of the [fetal tissue research statute] was to permit donations of fetal tissue, with those involved in acquiring or providing the tissue being permitted to recoup their reasonable costs. But I am saddened to report to the committee and to the American people that there does appear to be evidence that, in fact, a market has been created for the sale of human fetuses and fetal body parts.
We also will hear today about how this growing market for fetal tissue may be influencing the manner in which abortions are being performed, with potential risks to the health of the mother.
Before the ``20/20'' piece ran last night on ABC, which I hope all were able to see, I had the opportunity to view and comment upon the undercover hidden camera interview that producers conducted with Dr. Miles Jones of Opening Lines, a fetal tissue broker who was subpoenaed to attend today's hearing. In seeing the interview, I heard Dr. Jones assert that during some weeks he could make up to $50,000 in profit from buying and selling fetal tissue and body parts.
He clearly stated on several occasions that market force determines the price at which he sells fetal body parts. ``It is what you can sell it for,'' he said in response to a question about how much a brain or kidney goes for. He also made clear the cost of procuring the fetus ``is the same whether you get one kidney or two kidneys, a lung, a brain, a heart.'' The rest he agreed was just money in the bank.

It turns out the clause in the FTR statute allowing folks to recoup costs, is a loophole through which a growing market for baby parts has slithered. There is certainly a market for baby parts on ice, madam. Last October 21 and 22, Senator Bob Smith reported to the Senate about how baby parts vendors were literally operating even out of abortion clinics.

I don't think anyone is being "had" here. Pro-lifers know the extraordinary wickedness that is abortion, and so do the "choicers."

<<all the pro-life advocates >>

I'm always astounded when pro-life is used as a dirty word. Pro-life, for life. If that's bad we should legalize murder.
