iod_sherwood,

Re the energy issue, I'm sure its overly simplistic to compare it to the 70's crisis, but its probably not wholly farfetched to think that the value we place on technology has surplanted the value we used to place on transportation.

Will we see lines of bearded programmers queuing up with their laptops at the neighborhood battery charging station?

;)

On my home hyrdoelectric bill this month the provincial utility made a point of reminding us that we enjoy the lowest electricity prices in North America. I suppose we may continue to enjoy that if we can keep selling surplus to folks south of the border. British Columbia, we are told, has ample supply.

Aluminum smelters with their own capacity and other mills in this region are shutting down operations and selling their power. Even paying workers to stay home, they are generating more income and can do plant maintenance to boot.

I wonder if this becomes inflationary if this continues, not just because of energy costs but because of dropped production as producers sit things out.

So apparently we are all set up here, as long as it rains as much as it normally does.

Although I note that it seems a lot dryer in these parts this winter. I've only been rained on a couple times since the fall during my long weekend run. Usually its a steady stream of soakings from November to January.

Charging batteries now.
