smallcapmaven, the only reason that I can see to short CIEN is that earnings going forward will be diluted by the recent acquisition. I do not see CIEN warning or missing their numbers.

Absolutely. If you notice they haven't closed the acquisition yet, so the dilution from the acquisition won't hit this quarter. I'll bet they close the acquisition on the first day of NEXT quarter, blow away numbers this quarter, and then say "oh, by the way, EPS is going down next Q due to all these additional expenses" leaving investors to weigh the great Jan Q numbers vs. dilution going forward.

Cisco (CSCO: news, msgs) slipped $2.38, or 6.2 percent, to $36. CEO John Chambers made his comments while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He said that January business conditions had been challenging due to lower capital spending by telecom service providers. That prompted Lehman Bros. to cut its sales growth and earnings estimates for the quarter.
