To understand you will have to read the articles. No ifs and buts about that. In a nutshell, the short position on gold is such that if the price of gold rises unchecked, many of the conspirators will go bankrupt in a jiffy. Hence the need to manipulate the pog down in order to profit or to survive. Yes, it doesn't seem to make sense at first sight. But that is because it is a subtle thing: this is one instance where there's much more than what meets the eye. Read the articles and I am sure you will begin to see the big picture.
