Clinton certainly can be castigated for many things he did in office. I am not foolish enough to sit here and say that everything he did was proper. Like most Americans, I found fault with some of his pardons during his final days in office, as well as the fact that he let his John Henry do his thinking for him and cast the office of the presidency in the shadow of disgrace. I guess if there's one point I'm trying to get across, it's that there are facts and there are rumors, and every Clinton-hater out there these days is swallowing hook, line and sinker every unsubstantiated piece of info that people like Drudge and Limbaugh send their way.

Of all the post-Clinton comments, the one that made the most sense to me came from Sen. Robert Byrd of W. Va., who said something to the effect (and no, this is not an exact direct quotation), "He really could have been a great one had he not let his weaknesses get the better of him."

In any event, Republicans still must live with the fact that the years 1992-2000 were unparalleled in terms of peace and prosperity, and that Clinton was at the helm during that period.
