Equally interesting, Michael, is how after eight years of Newt, Lott, Armey, DeLay and their boys savaging the Democratic administration -- which started the day Clinton was sworn in -- the GOP has suddenly become the advocates of rhetorical restraint and a new civility in the treatment of the Executive Branch and presidential nominees. No one has the monopoly on hypocrisy.

California just had two back to back two term Republican governors before electing Grey Davis, a Democrat who was elected last year.. The State Assembly is now controlled by Democrats but it was controlled by Republicans.

The legislation that caused all this energy problem was passed in 1996. I know Pete Wilson was the Republican Governor and I believe that the Assembly was Republican. I don't know who controlled the State Senate in 1996. People are reporting that the Assembly passed the bill unanimously and was heavily lobbied for by the energy producers that are now bilking the state. The energy producers contributed to our state politicians in a big way. One of the energy producers was a heavy contributor to Bush.....the company is called Enron.

We pay the highest gasoline prices in the country now and my guess is that the energy companies want their share of all the money that is here. Most people have homes that are worth 300,000 to 500,000 dollars for an average house where I live( and I do mean an average home with a small lot). IT is a high end, attractive market and my guess is everbody who can is jockeying for position to extract as much as they can from this cash cow called the California population.
