As I recall, Chambers has said a number of times that Cisco's growth would not be affected by the slowdown in optics, for example. The idea was that Cisco's exposure to the broader IT market would buffer the effects of a telco capex slowdown.

Cisco will bottom today with this news. All bad news now factored in. Somewhere in here will be the new base. Does anyone really think that when the economy picks up 2nd half, cisco wont return to 30-40% growth?

I will say this. Regardless of your bias on CSCO one would have to agree that Chambers is doing a masterful job at setting expectations given Reg FD. He is managing the investment community and analysts extremely well in my opinion. And if I may be so bold, I think it's this kind of corporate leadership that attracts money to CSCO.
