Being totally ignorant of all things military (as my USAF retired brother-in-law continually reminds me) I would not be surprised if there were Vietnam-era satellite communications systems. However, that is not the same thing as saying the military has higher tech battlefield solutions that could handle the call volume and data rate that Globalstar can do now. Regardless of the movie and anything Tom Clancy writes. (Iridium plays a significant role in Clancy's current book, by the way. Oh, the tyranny of deadlines!)
