agreed. the costs, on the policy side however, will be far more lasting.

the best example i can think of is the overpopulation problem. mainly this is in the third world countries.

the influence and effect of religious dogma is taken to irrational levels. the denial of the parallel between lack of family planning, (or alternatives), and excessive growth has reached a point that now, to attempt reverse the current growth rate rates is nearly impossible. the effect on quality of life even for those in the upper socio-economic levels has been substantial.

this is not even considering that most people in power continue with their orgies of corruption, completely oblivious to what is really going on underneath them. in fairness, there are a few who do care, but it is like a small dinghy against a tsunami.

slowly this same situation will start showing up in the USA, obviously in the main cities mainly.
