OT/I agree t2, I think people have been too engrossed with CSCO
in the last 10 years.
A lot of money has been invested in CSCO .
CSCO was a great company. Perhaps it will still is a great company.
However technology's salient characteristic is that
of creative destruction: you keep creating then destroying
you creation and re-creating something better.

The problem with CSCO is their lack of R $ D. They grew by buying R & D.
That was made possible in the last 10 years by
a) lower rates and
b) an " irrational market " that valued their stock more than gold.

Unfortunately for CSCO that era is gone. At least the era of " stock irrational exuberance "
( well....don't take this statement as gospel truth...<vbg>).
So now CSCO has really to come up with innovative products. Can it do that? The jury is out on that.
Lot's of competitors out there now.
Also CSCO's " old mantra " was
" buy an end-to-end solution from us ".

Well with opticals braking up the old telco world, the field is wide open.
Many are now buying the best product at the best price,
from anybody, anywhere.
R&D will win in the end,

TA
