Forget the rumor. Amazon has a real cash problem. Note the very small inventory level at close of business 12/31/00. No new real inventory increases since then. Cash is a real problem and the real rumor is no once can easily raise it for them. GS apparently gave up and MS can't find a profit in it this time. Those are the rumors about the underwriters. The need for cash is a fact based on what I see come out of the firm.
