I suppose Lilly, Pfizer and all the other companies that make drugs will be unconcerned about competition and lawsuits and will just produce anything if there is no regulation?

Penicillin, aspirin, sulfa, heart transplants and countless other drugs and procedures were produced without FDA assistance.

How come we are trusted to buy $6 billion dollars of natural products which make no health claims? Many of us would rather trust a drug company and a doctor of our choice than having the government decide that it knows best.

Current regulations have NOT kept unsafe drugs off the market. One can make a case that regulation provides a legal defense to suits that would be easier to win if a corporation could not show FDA approval.
