"Mrs Reagan wasn't an elected official in position to provide a service for gifts rendered."

You can't be serious...read the article...the house was for both Mr AND Mrs Reagan, so what they did was just flat out WRONG! and makes it doubly funny that republicans got bent when Bill and Hillary took some $190K in gifts...we are talking about a HOUSE for G-d's sake!!

With respect to Clinton's office's, yes, this is a big ticket item and I can only believe that a) he will put the offices to terrific use and b) the President of the US is indeed entitled to a view of Central Park!...furthermore, real estate prices have skyrocketed in the 8 yrs since Clinton has been in office (thanks much to his terrific economic revival!) and hence your statement that his digs cost more than that of all other living Presidents has little meaning...I also believe that most US Presidents went into a slow fade upon leaving the WH and were much older than Clinton...Clinton has much higher aspirations and will not be fading from view any time soon.
