Well, that is a higher percentage than I was thinking. I remember there was some desire for the CBs to get rid of that nasty gold, and replace it with income generating assets.

The question, a year or so back, was would the euro prove to be a credible counterpart to the dollar. I think the theory was that if it were, a basket of bonds from various countries, including the US and the Euro could provide income and provide liquidity to defend a currency.

If this were to come about, then some countries might divest US dollar denominated bonds to buy into other countries.
