Thanks. Surprising the local business journal didn't pick that up. The cuts are attributed to the cautious economic climate, with slowing sales in the telecommunications sector, and a wider effort to streamline the company's manufacturing operations towards higher growth areas. "It is a regular part of our business planning to review our objectives and the resource requirements necessary to meet them," said Katherine Payne, JDS VP of human resources. "We've spent several weeks reviewing all of our operations, and reached the conclusion that we had about 700 positions in place in excess of what was required to meet the business demand." Payne said the job losses were in response to a normal review of the company's business requirements, but a "slightly more cautious economic forecast certainly played into out thinking."
