E&P/OSX hiring recruiters can now target high-tech companies for field hands instead of camping out at Oklahoma prisons:

<< The point about WorldCom laying off workers isn't that WorldCom is having problems - we knew that
already, take a look at WorldCom's stock price - it's that 10,000 to 15,000 gainfully employed people are
going to be without jobs - which means 10,000 to 15,000 houses without a breadwinner. And there's a
ripple effect, people who are laid off don't buy cars, can't pay their mortgage, don't buy new clothes, don't
pay taxes but do use tax-funded social services, etc., etc. These aren't just McDonald's type jobs, either.
Add to that the 16,000 that Lucent is laying off, the 5,000 that Penneys' is laying off, the 7,000 that Sara Lee
is laying off, the 2,000 that AOLTimeWarner is laying off, etc., etc. It's not an isolated incident, and it's not
just "company specific.">>

Right, and we are at the beginning of the process, not the end. Greeny should have started this process 4 months ago. Guess he doesn't listen to me? ;o}

If I am not mistaken US GDP growth held at 3% at the worst of the Asia panic. Definitely not the case now. Thanks for the canary post. 5%... 3%... 2%... 0%...

Quick, what is the slope of the tangent of that curve? Tweet Tweet

the difference between the sky-isn't-falling and when-it-does-fall is exactly the window in which we have to operate.
unless, patch-product demand can somehow hold up when more and more people stay home from jobs they don't have, etc.

was rather stunned to see that our largest local employer here in s.w. new mex is contemplating large layoffs due to the cost of power to mine copper. p.d. is considering laying off almost a thousand at santa rita and another 600 over at tyrone. that seems a huge blow in an ecomony that was no great shakes to begin with. that canary is surfing on endless ripples.
