I don't think service jobs will contract any more rapidly than manufacturing jobs. There is no evidence that they do. Manufacturing has changed dramatically in the last 100 years. Many of the unskilled and semi-skilled jobs you want to return don't actually exist anywhere. Machinery has become more efficient and intelligent, rendering those jobs obsolete.

In the long history of American protectionism, it is next to impossible to find a single success story. Change is the one constant in our life.
