And some times the short term does benefit us in the long term- it's just impossible to know for sure. Will a growing gap between rich and poor destabilize our government? Democracy depends on education and a sense of participation (something the third world really doesn't need to worry about yet)- we will not have that if a growing segment of our population feels shut out. Will that happen? I don't know. But it is certainly a possibility, and I don't like it. So I'll continue to be pro-union, and try to subsidize American manufacturers. Because I am convinced those positions are in my long term best interest.

Are you talking about the U.S. or Philippines? I was under the impression you were in the Philippines.
