Scott what is SI's policy in deleting old threads without recent posts? What criteria do you use? Thanks

Scott- When I "View Next 10 Messages", they invariably contain messages (many messages) from a person who I have on "ignore" (limtex), who posts incessantly, and who's a royal pain, he's like a black cloud of doom who somehow seems to follow me all over SI and make my life a living hell.

...ok I may have exaggerated that last part, but only a wee bit.

Anyway, what good is ignore, since I have to view 10 at a time, (otherwise with my dial-up and SI's sometimes plodding speed, I'd be on the net all night???????????????

So can you please fix "ignore"? Thanks.

Scott:

I'm sure you are very busy, but I would appreciate it if the ignore feature could be restored. Thank you for your efforts.

Scott/Bob -- a slightly different complaint re fonts...

In checking this thread, I see that most people's complaints involve feeling that the new (un-customizable) fonts are too BIG on their screens. Well, I actually have the opposite problem -- even though it obviously stems from the same software/programming mess-up at SI's end. So I wanted to point it out, for another perspective...

Because of vision-problems AND simple personal preference, in the past I'd always chosen to have SI posts display on my screen in the "Larger" font option available in Internet Explorer -- which had the effect not-only of simply of increasing the text-size, but also giving it a semi-bold appearance that I found MUCH easier to read (and that IE option affects only the specific window being-viewed -- unlike IE's "Accessibility" option, which affects the appearance of ALL windows and is therefore an impractical alternative when SI is the ONLY site that requires a font-change).

With SI's "new" font-system, however, the IE text-size options have no effect -- so I am now forced to squint to read the posts (when you first instituted the new fonts, for about a week this "disabling" of the IE size-options occurred only when displaying posts in the 10-per-page format -- but NOW, it's also the case when displaying posts individually as well).

Whether one finds the new fonts too big OR too small, the point obviously is that the new system is a BAD idea simply because it removes a user's ability to customize the text according to his/her own needs or preferences -- and as a "service-sector" company, whose entire purpose is to offer its users important text-based information, I'd think that SI's main concern should be to give those users the greatest possible flexibility rather than limiting their choices...

So, can we simply get things back to the way they WERE before all these problems began?...

Thanks,

Vagabond

Scott,

<< We will fix the font problems. >>

Might I remind you that was said a long, long, time ago. <g>

If the font problems are fixed I hope they are not fixed by simply substituting another fixed font that suits someone's arbitrary fancy.

Keep up the good work.
