I don't agree with that. Recession is looming, and it definitely with hurt Qualcomm a little bit too. Although it may not as severe as others.

Could it be due to slower anticipated sales of handsets [now industrywide], and competitive price pressures, which reduces Q's percentage-based royalties?

>> When Nokia is stumbling, it is ironic to see the Q go down.

Much as we hate to admit it, Q's fate is tied to the health of the sector, and not just its competitors but its customers as well. The buildout of 3G is going to require over a trillion dollars of capital formation, and it will take a group effort to pull it off.

That leads me to my biggest gripe about the gsm camp. In their effort to retain the status quo, they seem to be taking actions that delay the introduction of technology that would open up exciting new services for the subscribers. That delays new revenue streams to the carriers, which weakens the entire sector. No one will win under such a scenario.

>Once again Mr Market lumps "cell phone" stocks together.

Hmmm… why this ooh and aah on the topic of yet-again unfair treatment of Q stock? Let´s remember that N did not go down for some evaporated sweet and sour Chinese deals but on the revised handset market forecasts.

Although this thread is not generally known for its pioneering work on the logical analysis department, according to my own estimations CDMA handsets belong to the group "handsets".

But here, like in life, its more important to have right questions than right answers.
